That fashion is inconsistent and pretty much all over the place is really, no news. So I don’t know why I’m as surprised as I am for this PINK Trend that’s been going on all throughout fall, into this winter and will definitely linger on onto Spring & Summer 2014. Why the surprised face? Well… with the 90′s trend getting bigger by the minute (if that’s even possible. It is apparently.) pardon my assumption of grunge, black, plaid, rock meets punk and rave everything.

But really, thank God for a touch of girly and feminine, although (brace yourselves right now) I don’t really care that much for pink. Actually at all. Actually I hate pastels.

And pastels are huge this season. A part of me sees them as retro ice-cream colors worn by ’50′s moms or depraved housewives with eyeliners thinker than a pinkie, a cigarette and a glass of martini in their hands. Draped in light shades of pink, blue or mint with tiny flowery patterns and those kitten heels and mini boxy bags – these women were feminine alright. So I guess it’s the nostalgia over the upsides of those times that triggered the comeback of pastels and literally the invasion pale pink everything. If last season we had a thing for neons (pink included) I guess we’re now toning down ladies, which in itself is a great thing for variety’s sake if not anything else.

Yesterday’s PINK:Today’s PINK: Yet not all is so damn pale in paradise. Well, actually it is, but not in a bad way. Truth is there is something very very very incredibly elegant and understated sexy in pale pinks. A little sick actually, but in that opulent decadent kinda way. Doesn’t make any sense, I know. Just forget about it. I’m having one of those lives days. Aside from the inherent redundant girly feminine retro trait it holds, pale pink is also a hue of extremes. On one hand it belongs to the proper aristocracy with its hidden improprieties (hence my vision of sick regarding it) and on the other it’s a tool of punk fashion.

It’s that very touch of sexy and feminine it has that makes pale pink look incredible when paired with styles and colors of the same range (pastels and girly dresses, soft lines, retro hues, skirts, coats and very elegant rich outfits). But also at the very extreme lies this color’s ability to be everything else. When paired with a rock or punk inspired look it makes it more chic and brings it together with a touch of sexiness. It looks great actually paired with its contrasts in every form, from color to style. Personally I think it’s pale pink at its very best when worn like that. But then again there’s the retro sophisticated yet simple soft look of pale pink so very well showcased and mastered by Kim Kardashain. It was actually courtesy of the new blonde bombshell I got to like pale pink. Whether it was her, Kanye or God knows who, who style her – she pulled it off fantastic and showed me (don’t know about you) that pale pink is not just a thang of the dusted past, of our grandmas when they in the prime of their time. No. It can be done very modern, simple & understated. And now some street style inspiration. ;) All in all the pale pink trend looks great. Hell it looks amazing if you’re into these pastels. If not (like myself) it may be worth giving it shot on those days when being a girly girl seems like the best idea. Or when you feel like channeling you’re inner royal (secretly decadent) persona.

Don’t know about you, but I am loving all that is happening in fashion these days. Yeah, yeah, I know, it’s all a bit chaotic and all over the place, with everything in and nothing out, but just think about it? No more style boundaries. No more rules. Every style compromise and once sartorial concession seemed to have literally vanished.

One day women want to be glamorous femmes fatales, the other it’s all about channeling your Tom boy’ish persona. Ha. ’90′s are happily married to those ’50′s with their feminine silhouettes and ice-cream colors. And if you thought your inner girl or bride to be persona was a No-No place to go with your fashion choices. Pfff. Think again sista’.

Just a few months ago we saw women of all ages and styles don this wedding trend, like there was no tomorrow. Why wait? Or why not repeat the fashion statement sans le freaking wedding hysteria? Okay, let’s stick to today’s post. (why the hell do I keep rambling, I don’t know.) Style bloggers did it again. Obsessing over an item. The TULLE SKIRT. These sartorial explorers have taken the tutu right out of the ballet room and brought it on the streets. Whaaaat? Credit I do give them, but seriously now? I never would have thought this skirt trend would stick as much as its predecessor did. The skort. Remember?

Or, wait. We could give the credits for this one to the one and only, drumrolls… Carrie Bradshow. And so the tulle skirt is back. And I kinda love it. It’s retro. Feminine. Girly. Incredibly chic and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Sure you might look like a pretty overly decorated cake or those massive ice-creams I keep obsessing about (gotta treat myself to one asap.), but dayum! the overall tulle skirt look rocks. Especially with some hot heels and a leather jacket. Stunning! Basically it embodies everything us girls love about fashion, and going all the way with the tulle skirt is acceptable. Sexy stilettos, red lips and ponytail. At this point nobody gives a shit what top you’re wearing, so glaming it up or going understated with a plain ol’ tee is up to you. Shoes wise, like I said, stilettos do it better, yet some fashionsiats out there pull it off brilliantly in sneakers as well. What is key to the tutu is its length. While I do own one (mini black tulle, I’ve only wore once and loved it.), today’s trend is mostly about the midi skirt in pastel colors. Remember those retro 50′s silhouettes? Ding! So style-rules wise, let’s not even bother girls. If you love it, rock it. It if looks good, it probably looks great. Do your thing. I can agree however, the tulle skirt may be a bit too much.For some. Sometimes. There is a reason I’ve only wore mine once. It has to do with ridiculousness and the fear of. But back then I may have come across as a demented fashion lover unaware of her not so young age, desperately trying to fit into some girl’s ballet tutu, or grabbing onto some lost childhood dance memory.

Today… more girls love the look and do it. Soooo… pardon my go-with-the-crowd on this one, but it does tend to make one feel less exposed when more people do it. With the inherent downside: it can become way too generic at some point. Better milk it while it’s not so hot then. :))

Professing my love for all fashion bits is of no news to anyone, but when you’re gifted with one of the finest and most luxurious pieces your closet has seen, well, that just sums it up. (click here to see/get it).  So, as promised in my previous post on Russian scarves (here) I took a few pics of how I wore my Luxyra scarf, hence today’s post. Styling it was the easiest thing ever, despite its bold colors and daring flowery prints it goes with absolutely anything, giving a bit of that vintage refinement, traditional edge and luxury to your look. Winter does have its perks, true that: wearing a scarf of any color, style or fabric is a must to shield from the cold. And a great excuse to add some razzmatazz to an otherwise dull look.

And so I did. I ditched my coat for those 30 minutes on the rooftop taking photos, cause it was such a beautiful weather. But I had more layers on than an onion, so don’t let the sun fool you. I wore my Mysterious Muse scarf with skinny jeans, oversized sweater, denim shirt underneath and comfy ankle boots. But really, it goes with anything (although I do love how it looks against all-black-outfits) and its quality is beyond incredible. Why I love it? 100% wool – so it definitely kept me warm, especially when it was all wrapped up around my neck. I love that it’s massive. Think blanket size, or unfolded maxi dress, which only adds to its versatility as you can wear it, wrap it, tie it in so many ways it’s amazing. I adore its colors and prints. Bold. Bright. Vibrant. Extravagant mix of pinks, blues, reds, yellows that just pop against the black. Can look so edgy when paired with a printed top, or traditionally sophisticated when it’s the center piece of a look. The logo is brilliant: great design, in gold, very rich-meets-vintage-luxe, very discreetly placed in one corner.

Personally I felt it gave more jazz & color to my look, it gave a bit of oomph and made it less serious/boring/been-there-done-that.

And the fringes are the best. Made out of silk they are luscious & luxurious, the IT of Russian scarves. It came in a great box and fine wrapping paper. Loved it. So what’s to blame for my latest crush? Everything that comes with this scarf: it’s versatile, traditional-meets-edgy yet very classic. Soft woolen fabric, silk fringes, high quality, oozing refinement, luxury & richness. I wore mine all week and still can’t get enough of it.

This is a post on and for fashion addicts. Yes chicas this is STREET STYLE at New York Fashion Week. Cause why the hell not, right?

I mean seriously if I see one more thing about the inherent holiday frenzy (yes Valentine’s Day, I’m looking at you) I swear I’ll turn sick. There’s only so much pink, reds, hearts, forced (or not) love, one can take. 

I know yesterday I was preaching this, but give a girl the right excuse and she’ll turn it into fashion. So anyway, on braking the routine of the quite predictable week (yes more Valentine’s Day posts are to follow. What?) why not give in into some ridiculously lustful extravagant, exaggerated, avatgarde, fashion frenzy the street styles at FWs hold? Ding. Though I haven’t yet seen all collections, I wonder if the trends on the streets match the ones preached by designers?

Not for this season, for the next. Cause you know, if the creme de la creme of the fashion world is not precocious, I don’t know who is. Well… when you’re rich and famous, or are the biggest editor/PR or fashion blogger, that’s not very difficult, more so, wearing the newest of the new comes with the job description. Trends ON & OFF Runways? 

• Oversized seemed to be a huge look on the runways. Streets stuck to it.
• Socks in sight with heels, sandals and any shoe will be massive, and the the gurus know it. And did it.
• Extremes are still in, so basically ALL is still IN. Grungy black, dark looks live happily and side by side with an explosion of colors, prints, patters in the most wild, funky mixes ever. 
• Red lips rule man.
• So do the details that make a look: bags, funky stilettos or weird shoes. Nails. Hats. Face Masks. 
• 90s accents, a bit of 70s. So yeah basically retro inspo is still a thing. 

And now… let us marvel at how the gurus do it… :) Fashion is simply getting better and better, dismissing all rules, effing all conformities and praising what actually matters: personal style. Show me your take on a certain trend. Or if you hate them all, do your own shit. Give a big fuck to all that’s not you and experiment, wear whatever the hell you love. Be vibrant and cool. And always, always have fun. That’s what it’s all about.

If you thought the fountain of those (perhaps already too redundant) 90′s has dried up, think again. It seems as though we’ve got a thing for this decade, and re-embrace way too quickly its fads, regardless of their ugliness.

Today we talk shoes. Shoes for 2014 Spring & Summer as both the runways and the streets are showing. Remember the creepers? (more on this style & its history here). With a first appearance in early 40′s, they had a more recent comeback in the 90′s, when girls were emulating the Spice Girls and the techno culture in those sky high platform shoes in wild colors, paired with tiny shorts or mini skirts, blue eye-shadow, and neon accents. Raise your hands if you wore them? I had a blue pair with black thick soles, about 5 cm high, and trust me, were I not so tall, I’d have gone way above and beyond with the platform. At this point, I’m quite glad I didn’t.

As the 90′s graced us with the return of so many trends, the FLATFORMS were the one fad I never saw coming back. After its frenzy has stopped I never saw their appeal: too bulky shoes that make you look ridiculous. Incredibly unflattering.

But as of last year or so (courtesy of street style and designers such as Alice & Olivia)… they creeped their way back in today’s fashion and my consideration. Fashionistas of all ages and styles chose the thick soled shoes over sneakers, high tops, oxfords, ballet flats, and even heels. I guess the deal with flatforms is combining the height of a posh shoe, with the comfort of a sneaker, that is not a wedge. Flatforms are like those ugly-shoes-at-first-sight with a certain style to them that hooks you, or seduces you in time. They grow on you. Just yesterday I went sopping with my friend and tried on a pair of loafer flatforms from H&M, and loved them. She hated them completely; and not so completely after I tried them on.

“Aaaah. I guess they’re OK. Or maybe not. I don’t really like them.”, as opposed to “OMG, I totally hate those!”, from before I tried them on.

That was me a year ago as well. Now I’m like creepers & flatforms (not too high though) bring ‘em on. I love the quirkiness and that weird 90′s vibe they give to a look, how they take away from the too-sexy look a pair of cutoffs & cropped top , or a very short dress may have, and give it a bit of Tom boy’ish vibe to it.

They have a bit of it all: sporty, casual, edgy, punk, professional, cool, weird, so playing dress up with these is a massive gain in styles. Especially since they come in trillions of designs: sandals, loafers, oxfords, with laces or not, colored, printed, different fabrics, different sole height. In terms of how to style them, they go with just about anything a basic sneaker or ballet flat goes with, their best match for spring & summer being short flirty dresses (think 90s style & today’s music festivals fashions), short skirts, cutoffs & shorts. More of a weekend/holiday look.  Some ladies fabulously pull the masculine look for the office. Think slim cut trousers, not too long (or rolled up), pencil skirts, or even midi dresses. I like it, when it’s balanced with feminine details like: long nails, red lips, accessories. It’s got a bit of awkward meets boho chic to it all. Personally I’m not to keen on the flatforms and super skinny jeans or midi skirts combo. But who knows. It wouldn’t be the first time I’d hate something right before loving it.

Now don’t let your mind fly off to some dirty little scenarios. Or let it. And while you’re off to God knows where (Stop it now!) we’re talking trench coats here. Just so you know. With winter gone, we’re easily sliding onto the warm season, which implies 2 major things: LAYERS & TRANSITIONAL pieces.

In other words it’s a fashion heaven.

Ever since I did this post a few months ago,  I’ve been slightly obsessed with oversized trenches. First of all trench coats are the coats of fall & spring, hence transitional pieces (ding. ding.), as well as perfect pieces for layers. And with the 2014 spring silhouettes and lines getting looser and looser, it don’t get no better. For 2014 spring, designers showed collections based on layers and the play of lengths, opting for oversized loose trenches in those super thin fabrics that resemble chiffon. With hems way over the knees, slightly large shoulders, yet not pointy (thank God), and usually cinged at the waist with a messy tied belt – the 2014 trenches of spring resemble their vintage ancestors & their ’70′s relatives.

With the tiny push I got from designers, and the cool-boho-chic-meets-super-HOT-70′s-outfits-combo (think DVF and Amy Adams in American Hustle) this ’70′s obsession of mine is just getting started. So get those 70′s-sometimes-even-80′s-silhouettes (sans le pointy shoulders. we ain’t no Gaga.) and mix them with today’s fabrics, textures and why not even funky prints and patters, if the classic ol’ nude or black trench is too boring for you, and you get today’s IT trench coat for spring. It looks best with heels (classic pumps, stiletto ankle boots, strappy stiletto sandals), because it’s a great balanced look: someting-oversized-borrowed-from-your-BF clashed with posh feminine accents. I love this look with skinny jeans, and short skirts or shorts, because of the lengths play. A messy tied up belt and rolled up wrinkled sleeves will give you that can’t be bothered air, incredibly sexy-on-the-run, I-don’t-give-a-shit-what-I-have-on (but look damn good). 

Sure not every day is a heels mood day, so don some pointy ballet flats instead. Smaller heels or platforms: For a more laid back look – think bohemian posh hobo, too intellectual to give a crap – pair your super oversized long trench coat with comfy shoes: sneakers, flat boots, flat sandals, basically no heels. Colombo alert!

Personally I’m not too keen on the hobo look. Some people can brilliantly pull this off, I – on the other hand – always end up looking like some miserable piece of shit. And the way to avoid this unfortunate predicament is to wear posh heels.

This way I can keep the oversized thing going on, I can roll my sleeves, not iron it if it suits me, and play with layers and lengths like a demented fashionsta. With heels it will look good. Well, I think it’ll look amazing. But let’s just go with good for starters. And while I’m on a heels roll here, my theory is… anything, anything, anything, (no. that’s not a typo. I just felt it needed to be repeated.) anything looks good with heels.  No? Anyone?

When a trend like this comes along, or its style is reinvented – I’m looking at you PALAZZO PANTS – it’s only normal some of us are left with the ‘looking at’, or perhaps just a raised eyebrow.

That not all trends are for everyone (as much as one loves fashion) is only common sense. And truth. Personally I feel this is the case of these loose, large, flowy pants of the 60′s and 70′s. If you’re short, forget about them. If you’re skinny and tall, I call it quits. Unless you wanna channel a willow in the wind, which of course is acceptable if we’re to look at all the beautiful models looking rather high fashion editorial (read hobo-chic) in these, rather than anything else. But, to each their own. So, left with a raised eyebrow and a massive indecision regarding these trousers I decided to split my personal self into 2 personas. One who’s not too keen on these, and the other who’s considering giving them a try. Gasp. Yet upon embarking on this split personality shit I am faced with having to find greatness where it’s not. At first sight at least. For me. Because I’d like to finish today’s post on a positive note, let’s kick off on the… errrr… less positive side of these palazzos and get it over with.

Clock’s ticking…

So over 5 minutes have passed from the aforementioned statement, and still I can’t put my finger on my dislike. Frankly it has to do with just some styles of these palazzos, and how horrendous (in my eyes) they look with oversized tops and loose long hair. OK. This sophisticated hobo trend is big now. I get it. But… I don’t. And don’t even get me started on the cropped version of these pallazzo pants… Yeah, they’re funky, and different and cool (in some parallel universe, or even this one, in which case I must be living in a different dimension)… but… let’s just say my eyebrow is still up to my hairline on this one. At the end of the day I admit to being fully biased, as a tall thin framed woman. I’d look bloody ridiculous in these. Yet… as fashion has it… never say never. It wouldn’t be the 1st time I’d strut in some fancy fad thinking I’m the next Kate Moss, when in fact I’m hardly the next best version on myself on on my worst style day.

But… until the change of mind happens, if it will, I stand by my palazzo dislike. As life has taught us, each story has two sides. Such is the case of the palazzo pants. I’m not an idiot (at least not this minute) so I can understand the frenzy and coolness of this pants trend for 2014 Spring & Summer. Doh.

Flowy silky soft fabrics, that just blow in the summer wind, making you feel irresistibly sexy and sophisticated. A bit of sheerness, some funky wild prints and patterns – the palazzo pants look for summer or spring can look very effortless and chic. It’s like wearing a maxi skirt while you’re vacationing in the South of France. This by-the-sea-style looks great with flats, gladiator sandals, a cropped top or even (can’t believe I’m saying this) a loose top, cause it’s got that bohemian vibe to it. Another palazzo pants style I kinda am OK with are the monochromatic high wasted ones with side pockets. Think professional woman in summer. It’s simple but classy, with a bit of that 70′s vibe to it. Regarding the heels: whatever floats your boat. I love how simple stiletto sandals look with these, other than that I think it’s too bulky and a bit too much, too harsh. Still… what do I know. A photo can speak so much more than I can (not that that’s very hard to do) so let’s have a look: Yeah. Let’s just say my eyebrow in no longer as high as my hairline right now… but I don’t know about rushing off to get the latest palazzos out there. I might though. They do look pretty amazing in those photos.

… aaand as the 90′s continue to be of great inspiration, with them crop tops, high tops, cut-offs, jersey tees, the undercut, and whatnot, I realize one can only milk so much greatness of a situation. Hence the rebirth of a few ugly shits from back in the day: THE MULES. 

The mules alongside all the slip ons, and clogs are the best ugliest shoes ever. I love them. But I hate them. Which coming from me, is of no surprise as I can barely make up my mind on coffee with or without milk on a daily basis. If I were to remain very politically correct towards my trendy glam puss persona – I’d pick the hate-mules-team. They’re not too flattering on the legs, they seem to visually cut the feet, and unless they’ve got the pointy toe they look very harsh and masculine. Dated a bit. Well, doh. They’re a 90′s shoe. But then I get all nostalgic and shit and I switch to love-mules-team. How could I not, when Carrie Bradshaw had a pair on at any given time of the day and night and looked fabulous. Dresses, shorts, fur – she loved mules, slip ons and clogs. And she worked them so great it’s impossible not to reminesce on those 90′s and fall in love with them all over again. And yeah, SJP was and is the fashion icon of those times with all the fads and trends, but if you think about the 90′s shoes, mules were everywhere. Buffy had them on. The girls in Clueless. Donna, Brenda or Kelly in Beverly Hills 90210. And you know what… for me, it’s the nostalgia of those times that makes me go back and say I’ll take them again please!, on this 2nd round, and not give a fuck how old that makes me sound. At the end of the day it’s just shoes, and what a pity it’d be not to give in to all the fads and crazies. So the MULES are back in 2014 Spring & Summer and thanks to mostly all designers these shoe styles come in trillions of shapes and forms, so finding a great pair for you will not be hard, as much as you hate them.

That and, as one designer put it – in a world of slit skirts, and midi lengths (2014 spring and summer) ankle straps would have looked horrible, so the mules had to have a comeback, for their ankle free quality if nothing else.

Wow. Thank God they didn’t think of classic pumps you know. :)) If you’re a classic pumps stiletto kinda girl, you’ll probably experience a slight reticence to mules, yet… they do come in less bulky designs. Basically a classic stiletto sans le back side. ta-daaa. Before doing this post I myself was in the same predicament, but I actually like them. Again. Love the clogs for a more casual, grunge, boho chic style and mood, love the stilettos for that once-90′s-business-woman-sophistication. Love all the styles. All I gotta do is think Sex and the city and BAM! I fly off in this brilliant time machine straight to those 90′s and come back with a tone of style inspo. Mules are actually not that bad. The Earrings (see & get them here). I’ve always wanted statement yet quite classy earrings. I love dangling pieces, as it feels they’re enough of a statement without being too much. I’ve worn mine with one of those baseball type jerseys and loved the style clashing. Then with a dress and a smart top. But for today’s post I’ve just piled them all together for a chop-chop shooting and just to see how this too-much-bling-thing looks and feels. Not too bad. It felt edgy-glam and kinda cool a little bit. But then again, when it comes to bling, nothing is too much for me.

Pardon my French, but with the fringe trend making a HUUUGE comeback in 2014 (both in Spring & Fall, so you can go on and stack up on tasseled clothes), I’m getting this urge to cut all my hems and trims into fringes. Ah… such a sweet (and awkward too) trip down memory lane to those 90s, when every girl was wearing fringed T-shirts & spandex leggings. Cringe.

Now that this image is forever imprinted onto your brain, I’m inviting you to extend your fringe-trip down memory lane and expand your nostalgia horizons right back to those glam kitsch 1980s. Or if you think you’re so posh go straight for the gold: those roaring 20s. ;) Nothing is ever certain, everlasting or unbiased, mush less in fashion. What is certain though is that FRINGES are IN this spring & summer, and according to this Fashion Week, they’ll be IN next cold season as well. And what’s even greater (or great if you hate fringes) is the many ways we can rock this look. No. We’re not limited to those 90s. Amen to that!

In fact fashion is taking it back to those ’80s, so just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse. BAM! it did, and this bitch called fashion is rolling on her back laughing her ass off at us for going where no one ever wanted to go before. Those 80s.

But, Dearest Fashion, should you care, we’re more grown up now and have learned to be creative, so, in with the coolness of that decade and out with the kitsch. Ha! And for the posh personas in us all those ’20s come to our rescue with silky dancing fringes adorning our bodies on dresses, skirts, tops and whatnot. It’s glamorous, sultry and quite sexy, on a very modern silhouette: belted cinged waists, broad-er shoulders. You get it. And last, but definitely not least on the fountain of fashion inspo topic (so feel free to get crazy and creative) a lot of this FRINGES craze takes me back to my cowgirl days, in some far far away western land, of wild untamed spirits, crazy hearts and fast horses. Yeah, I lived centuries ago in Wild Wild West. You gotta problem with that? Well, if I must address this delicate issue I will.

My friends will probably have a huge problem with this cowboy approach, as my obsession for country music (to my defense I only blame Garrett Hedlund and his unbelievably sexy deep voice), which I see no reason in hiding, much to their embarrassment, will now be topped, enhanced and supported (YAY!) by a likewise fashion. Fringed suede jackets! Fringed boots! Hell, fringed everything and top it off with a hat! That’ll most definitely leave me looking like Dorothy freaking Page, sans le social life. Ah well, fashion comes with a sacrifice. Laugh all you want, but fringes do have this versatile power of standing as a statement in any style and look, and I may choose to be the fucking wild west diva one day, but I can switch it all up into a boho-chic Coachella chick, an 80s Madonna, a 90s kid, a rich 70s-meets-80s socialite. Ta-na-na-na-na-na-na.

The truth is, I never really gave a crap about this trend, but something changed the moment I saw a cool vintage fringed suede jacket. Oh, and I’ve always had a crush on fringed boots. So I guess the passion was there somewhere, it just needed a push. And so it got.

The jackets and boots are but a few items adorned by these pretty sultry silky tassels. Actually the world of these tassels only begins here, as the plot thickens with bags, T-shirts, blouses, skirts, belts, necklaces, hats. Told you it’s an everything thing. If you’re Meh on this trend, you may consider giving it a try with accessories: a tiny fringed bag, or a piece of fringed jewellery can be the start of a tassel romance. Why we should love fringes? Because, above all, they are fun.

Oh it’s that time again. The time for us girls to look and talk about men, on one of the most discussed and flaunted men topics in the past years: FACIAL HAIR. Its power to transform any young lad into the next hipster/masculine hunk/caveman is undeniable, and all one has to do is just get sloppy with his hygienic routine. Ouch.

Well… the truth is, there’s something fucking irresistible about a guy who’s too lazy to shave off and decides to wear a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 hell a 10 days stubble and pull it off. By the time he decides to go back to the Don Draper clean shaved face, it strikes him: women have been eye-balling and flirting with him like crazy in the past days, he’s been going on dates as if he’s George freaking Clooney (btw he too has a stubble), or his partner is smitten with him as if they just met. Ha! Yep.

The beard has this spectacular power to transform boys into men. As if. But you know what I mean. According to the vast world of web a few things have been known to remain true over time. (1) Men think they look better clean shaved, or that’s what they think women think. (2) Women prefer the scruffy look. Period. Finally someone decided to do the math on this shit, hence the scruffy look trend.

Both teams love it and for the right reasons, I mean what’s not to love about it? It adds coolness and gives a man a touch of masculinity, aggressiveness, that rugged edge and toughness they all think they have, and we all hope at least one proves true. So, if in the past, the dilemma lingered around the ‘To shave or not to shave’ question, now, as the obvious answer is NOT, the question shifts to ‘HOW SCRUFFY IS TOO SCRUFFY’?

How long does a beard have to be, or not to be, to look HOT, or before it stops looking HOT?

Ladies, it’s time to break this shit into pieces and debate.

1st of all, all male specimens should drop the goatee (before we start a revolution). It looks ridiculous. It’s either facial hair everywhere or clean shaved. Same crap applies for mutton chops. FUCK.

1. And then this heaven-of-sexy-men starts… with a 5 o’clock beard. Dayum. You know that few-days-old stubble that looks soooo freaking good and instantly ups your game. This is the one style I will assume ALL women love on a man. It translates to sexy, effortless, masculine, rugged yet not too scruffy.

Some look great with both short and longer versions of the stubble. Others like Ben Affleck do the shorter version much better. Or so the vast majority of women have spoken, when he had the rather full facial hair going on for Argo, the ladies could not wait to see that go away. Well… I get it. Why hide a gorgeous face? Personally I think he’s hot no matter what, and he could make the caveman beard hot as hell. More looks here: 2. Which brings me to the next facial hair look:  the Jesus beard. I think this is great on those who know how to carry it. Personal style has got a lot to do with this beard type. The Jesus look is all about personal taste: of the carrier as well as the watcher. To each their own.

I’ll say one thing. Its not that bad. On some boys. What do you think? The moment your facial hair has the potential to meet your chest hair, pleaaaaaase shave. The moment by-passengers can tell today’s menu by looking at your beard, it’s time to wear a shorter version, clean shave or just take some How To Wear & Clean Your Beard classes. Those people who know what you had for breakfast yesterday are strangers!!! What’s next? Birds nesting in that shit?

But then again, who gives a crap what the rest of the world thinks? We certainly don’t, when we wear some stupid unflattering thing. So respect.

When talking FACIAL HAIR one thing is certain: it’s the biggest trend for men for the past 2 or 3 years, alongside the undercut (all about it here) and the tattoos. This hipster-rockstar-bohemian-cool-intellectual-sexy-as-hell-mother-fucker look is all over our men. I wonder, is it because they can’t be bothered anymore, they’re too cool for shaving all of a sudden, or it’s just a trend thing?

Or are you boys trying to look more like men? Awww.

Unless you’ve been travelling to the moon, Mars, Jupiter and the likes for the past month or so, you’re familiar with the world’s obsession for Lupita Nyong’o and her ORANGE LIP makeup. Or her anything actually. This girl could make the worst thing look cool.

Or I wonder, is it our obsession with celebrities that feeds this drive to adore someone to the point of deciding everything they do is trend worthy and emulate it till we drop? Cause you know, the orange lip trend was predicted, hell it emerged on the catwalk last season for Spring/Summer 2014, at most designers. The fashion gurus slash artists from Rag & Bone, Pragbal Gurung, DKNY, Dsquared, or John Galiano sent models down the runway in light pink pastel sugar-high-unsaturated colors – true – but it certainly wasn’t a washed out calm mood, as the bright neon orange lip look popped up on almost any face at almost any show. So there you have it. I guess we’re living the times of celebrity endorsements and the fear us mortals have with trying out a new look unless some rich kid has already got the praise for it. 

”It’s not about being sweet. There’s a lot of pastels in the collection, so I wanted the lip to really pop.” says makeup artist Gucci Westman at Rag & Bone show.

Be as it may, the outcome is this: 2014 Spring may be all about pastel clothes, but makeup wise – give it up for the tangerine lip trend! It’s the hot season when we all love to look fresh alive and have fun with colors and looks, so this is just about the greatest makeup trend out there. Would have been a pity to let this summer go to pale waste. From neon shades to just a tinted lip color, orange lipstick can do wonders to our faces as well as (or especially) to our mood. And it goes with any skin tone from the fairest to the darkest. If you put your inner makeup artist to work you may just be able to nail quite a few looks: bare face & orange lips; sun kissed skin and orange lips; bold eyebrows and tangerine lips; eyeliner & orange lips; retro looks, glam looks, 80s style makeup. The sky’s the limit! It’s got that warm disco meets cheeky girl vibe to it, and I think it’s got a massive potential to spice up any plain look. Just picture an all black outfit made up of simple black skinny jeans, an old T-shirt or tank top and some plain old sneakers or flat sandals. Simple borderline boring. Now picture all this with bright orange lips. Exactly my point.

More looks… It’s not as harsh as dark lips, not as pretentiously sexy as red lips. It’s fun. Warm. Trendy with a hint of pop-culture and retro. Never cared too much for this lip color, as it was so throwback kitsch 80s, but you what? If it’s good enough for Lupita, it’s good enough for me.

Sexy. Spunky. Smart. Stylish. Semi-retro. Semi-grunge. Shiny. Sheer. Short. Shocking. Are but a few spring’ish seductive synonyms to describe this hot season’s skirt. If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the catwalks last season, it’s that designers envision Spring/Summer 2014 in SKIRTS (among other things).

Pants or trousers, depends from which side of the pond you’re from, take a back seat. As do shorts, or any bottoms for that matter in favor of this uber feminine slightly retro chic, but still grungy item: Le Skirt. Frankly it’s about time we got a breath of fashion fresh air, cause as much as we love men clothes and walking in their shoes, truth is we’re not equal (cause we rock above and beyond our male beloveds. Doh.), and we’ve got this super power to do and wear whatver the hell we love and pull it off. Male Monday. Androgynous Tuesday. Hot Wednesday. Sexy & Seductive Thursday. Feminine Friday. You get it. With the skirt focus this season we seem to be going back to basics or linger confused somewhere in time between 1970′s (tea-lengths & pleats. helloooo!) and 1990′s (what? don’t fake a surprised face cause we all love a bit of rocknroll and grunge. We may have gotten tired of it… but the love is there.) Fashion & unsuccessfully-funny rant aside, WHAT SKIRTS ARE HOT THIS SEASON? Is there a skirt trend? Or ALL is IN? While the latter remains true, there appears to be a very obvious back to classy-feminine-can-t-be-bothered-yet-incredibly-rockish-cool-chic-skirt-basics with  THE MIDI skirt - the star of 2014 summer, alongside its various interpretations and sisters.

• Slits (on every and any skirts)

How To Wear 2014 Summer’s Skirts? Since high-waisted skirts are the only thing the above styles have in common, it’s imperative to say, that ALL skirts this season, look HOT with crop tops or bustiers.

The plain ol’ T-shirt is making a clean statement alongside chunky necklaces. Great combo!

And the classic shirt/blouse remains a cool choice. As does the sweatshirt or mini sweater. 

Street style inspo: So… if you’re facing a skirt predicament, buy or style something that a 90s Kate Moss would wear style-crossed with a 70′s diva in sexy tea-length pleats, or even an 80′s ruffled mini skirt obsessed socialite. All the while keep it effortlessly cool and have fun.

If you’re considering buying a pair of colored chucks cause you know, spring is here, hence all colored things are in, STOP right there. I mean do go shopping, by all means, just opt for the WHITE chucks, high tops, kicks, cause this spring it’s all minimal. Clean cuts. Clear lines. Sporty luxe meets casual effortless and gives birth to chic sophisticated minimal looks.

What does this invasion mean for us, anyway? Do we stop wearing our pretty colored sneakers? Are all white sneakers in, or just high-tops par example? And how do we style them?

While the focus in 2014 Spring/Summer is on the clean cut lines and white, light, puffy minimal colors, this trend – as invasive in our fashion lives as it is – does not exclude the bright colored sneakers. White sneakers is just the TREND & the IT shoe of 2014. So keep the brights, but get a pair of whites as well. On the WHAT sneaker type to pick – ANY and EVERY should sum it up. From high tops, low tops, chucks, kicks, thick soled, blinged – as long as they’re white, they’re perfect. Style wise, although seemingly they would only work with sporty’ish attire, the beauty of 2014 trend is pairing white sneakers with anything. Think about the most ridiculous combo. Now do it. From the classic summer look (cutoffs and tank tops) to casual dresses, to office looks (think silky top and trousers or skirts), to evening looks (sequined styles, evening little dress) the white sneaker is like a return to our childhood/teenage years in those 90s, when every girl had a pair of white kicks she wore with anything. Back then it was all street cool. Now the white shoe is more of a minimal less-is-more-kinda-sophistication. It’s like a break in the color-less monotony (all black look and white sneakers) or a look-away from the feet (just keep it simple and clean in white shoes) to let the rest of the outfit do the talking. While this trend is not worthy of a continuous omgomgomgomgomg - exclamation point – it’s still got that understated something that makes us all wanna be part of it. A look borrowed from ‘cool’ moms, effortlessly chic French girls, summer teens in cutoffs and flirty dresses, preppy girls turned sporty, geek versus cheeky rich socialites playing tennis. In fact, for the past year or so fashion has been obsessed with the laid back, sporty chic styles. Yeah we’re still doing the glam, the grunge and the smart – but… if you stop and give it a close look for a sec, you’ll notice all designers sent models down the runway is a classic sporty, or reinvented sporty look, whether it was sporty laid back by the shoes, or by the fabrics or colors, most collections sent our minds off to a more relaxed and athletic world, where it’s OK to wear white sneakers to work. Does this mean the era of posh heels is dead? Where is that OMG when you need it? When it comes to heels I could care less what the sartorial world has to say. I’m keeping them. The good news though, is that fashion today is one big whore, who lives with everyone (all being in and that shit), so it’s only normal we dress to our moods and the style labeling has long died. 

One day we feel like a 90s grungy sexy Kate Moss, the other we’re hot as hell in sky high heels like the the ultimate glamour puss, the next we’re this Tom-boy, model off duty, socialite, manager, rock star, or 15 year old spoiled brat. All is cool. Age is just a number. Trends are just fashion. It’s all about personal style & moods.We’re all too cool to be just one and too creative to be style pigeonholed.

On today’s topic, heels addict as I may be – I’ll say this: white sneakers. OMG!OMG!OMG! In a good way.

Not long after I did this post everyone started chopping off their locks, in what seemed to have been the Miley syndrome. So, as our mouths and egos got bigger and bigger our locks got smaller and smaller. Yeah, the undercut slash the soccer mom (JLAW I’m looking at you!) are making waves in the hairstyle world, but more so than these, are the LOBS. 

What the hell is a LOB? A somewhat longer version of the bob. In 2013-2014 any version of the bob haircut is a massive hit from medium length (just above the shoulders) to super short (see Beyonce or Ciara), with or without bangs, blunt or layered, straight, wavy or curly. It’s said to be the most versatile haircut, to fit any woman, any face shape, any style any whatever. And if you have straight hair it’s said to be the shit. Well… let me just say this: in my case it is a shit. It’s been 2 months since I’ve chopped off my hair and traded the straight layered or occasionally wavy locks for a blunt lob. My problem with it? I find it a very harsh look rather than chic or sophisticated. Although now that it has grown a bit, I kinda like it. Or maybe I just got used to it.

My hard-to-please-indecisive-persona-aside, I love the bob hairstyle on others (this was the reason I got it in the 1st place). It’s grown up but fun, chic, sleek, incredibly versatile, and it screams femininity in that sophisticated kinda way. It can be done in so many ways it’s crazy. From super straight blunt sleek statuesque neck-elongating-look to layered-wavy-curly-throw-in-some-bangs-or-don’t styles it probably is just a matter of finding the right one for you. This, I think is what bugs me (that I haven’t yet figured out my type of bob. Here’s to experimenting some more!) 

So, anyway, why is everyone obsessed with the BOB? Have you seen Alexa Chung? There’s a reason she’s been rocking this hairstyle since… well… since forever. Fabulous girls like Jessica Alba, Leigh Lezark, Nicole Warne or Giuliana Rancic (who btw looks amazing with this cut, much better than extra long for her.) are pretty much ambassadors for the lob & the bob. Everyone (who was anyone) had this cut at Fashion Week. Regardless of styles, hair-colors, professions et all. And I wonder why?

Could it be that with all this fashion/style/trends craze going on, where it’s OK to be and wear whatever the hell you wish and rock it while you’re there, we need some style order in our lives? So we do this clean cut, un-fussy, simple hairstyle. As the title betrays, this topic requires a debate as a mirror to my personal predicament.

BOB or LONG hair? Regarding the latter, there’s no need to get all intellectual about it. Long hair has always been the epitome of women, of femininity, of youth, coolness, hippy, rebel, but also proper. It is said though, long hair is for the young ones only, and once a woman crosses the 3o something border she should bob. Well, to this I’m just flipping my middle finger. Personally it’s all a matter of whatever floats your boat. I love long hair. But then again I think short hair, bobs, lobs and all the likes are incredibly cool and edgy. And that I really love. Anyway I’m quite unstable when it comes to hairstyles and my likes and dislikes for God knows what look.

When I had long hair I wanted a blunt bob. Everyone else had one and looked great. So I chopped it. Now… everyone seems to have amazing long long long long hair and look fabulous, while I look like the weird new kid in class. Anyway it’s not a big deal. It’s just hair. It’ll grow.

‘Nooo!’ cried all the women with a penchant for all fashion things. ‘You can’t do this! Give us a bag we can’t say ”No” to, when a ”Yes” doesn’t really work. We can’t fit a damn thing in this new bag.’

‘I dare you.’ replied Fashion in the cheekiest laughter.

We don’t really need that much. Or do we? Can we trade our big carryalls for these teeny tiny bags? Makeup? Overrated. Phones? Paaaalease. We’ve got pockets. Keys? Well those can fit inside. And btw, so can a tiny lipstick, a hand cream and a card. Perhaps some change or a 20 bill, just in case. Carrying a whole stationary slash Boots shop with us has proven pretty useless over time. The bigger the bag the more chances you’re not gonna find anything in there. It’s like a God damn black hole. So… along came fashion with a simplifying solution: tiny is the new massive. Stop carrying around all your crap, and learn to prioritize. Keep only what matters close to you. Life lesson alert. Maybe. 

The bags of 2014 are the prettiest and sweetest things ever. TINY PRETTY BAGS that seem to belong to some other you, who’s only inches taller than a Louis Vuitton suitcase.

How can we fit all our 24 hours  in one tiny bag, smaller than our palms? Well… we can’t. Instead we should practice what sartorial connoisseurs preach: apparently minimalism is IN so this TINY BAG trend is just about the best opportunity to go with this less-is-more flow. Never one to care too much for the aforementioned flow, when it comes to the 2014 MICRO TREND, to hell with my stupid rules. I mean just last month I was on a rant about the micro sweater replacing the oversized one. So I’m embracing this smaller is better bag thing, yet I’m not ready to ditch on all the bling, color blocking, glam. I’ll take one tiny bag for each huge occasion. How’s that? ;) I mean who really needs an iPad to work? Books to read on tubes and buses? Heels in the bag – cause who the hell can walk in them at 9 am? Or, God forbid we may need them for a tres importante meeting slash rendez-vous, I’d rather carry them for nothing, than regret them forever.

Okay. Now look at these bags… … and just erase everything you ever knew and cared about bags. Oversized massive bags are great for a 9-5, but work schedule aside, you got no excuse to not carry with you a teeny tiny handbag, that looks like your wallet. Only carries less stuff.

That’s not to say the massive designs are unfashionable, just that in 2014 Spring/Summer we’re a bit girly, retro, adorable, sweet and treat our bags more like accessories (which they are). Per se. Like shoes, a great bag can make an outfit, it can be the statement piece of your whole look, which is great. It can be simple, packed with bling, beads, crystals. It can be a pop of color as tiny as a phone dangling off your shoulder or resting across your body. Micro bags are the easiest way to have fun, switch and style looks.

Yeah they may not be hoarder-friendly, but there’s something so incredibly feminine and ’60′s retro about a teeny tiny bag it’s irresistible. Plus they look ridiculously fun. I especially love those styles that come in huge designs normally, but for the sake of this trend they’ve made them sooo small, as if they’re shrunken, and belong to some fashion addicted doll in some fairy-tale world.

Sure… not too practical, but really impossible to resist. What do you think?

You know those relaxed but chic looks we put together so effortlessly and really unconscious as if we’ve mastered the sartorial art since well… forever? And then we go off and read something somewhere (me reading in WhoWhatWear) that says BAM! the look we’ve taken for granted for years is a trend! I wonder is it really like that? Do we unconsciously dress to trends and don’t treat them as such until some validated thing or person declares them trend worthy? I mean think about it, just last week I was going on about how massive a trend white sneakers is. Really? Or sweaters in fall. Coats in winter. Sandals in summer. Wow, thank God for the clear sign, otherwise I’d have gone to work in my PJs in summer and bathing suit in winter.

Trend alert or not, apparently we’re convinced cuffers. All of us. Rolling and folding our jeans since we were kids and cuffing them on and on and on and on every single day. Almost. Much like its siblings (the half tuck, the rolled up sleeves) we do it in such a fashionable haste it’s both great and easy to overlook. Or take for granted for that matter. But 3 people wearing the same thing does a trend make, and by the looks of cuffed trousers around town we’re smitten with this style. Men and women alike. So why do we cuff our jeans? Where did all this cuff craze begin in the first place? Who started it? Why? Does it really do any justice to our style?

And is there a shtick to this thing, or just roll those fuckers as you wish? The CUFFED JEANS TREND has a lot to do with our pop culture and our guilty pleasure for celebs spotted by paparazzi on the street. How do they look on a daily basis? What are they wearing? Usually it’s super relaxed styles, casual, boho-chic, quite messy looks – with the Cuffed Jeans being ubiquitous when it comes to their off-duty style. We looked. Saw. Loved. And emulated. 

There’s something very Parisian in cuffing your jeans, as if you’re chic on the go and require no preparation whatsoever to look simple and sophisticated. Which couldn’t be more true. So long live the stars! :)

Then came the bloggers. And before we knew it every fashionsta, stylist, editor & fashion passionate at Fashion Week was cuffing like mad, for the same reason previously stated. It’s cool. It’s incredibly chic and French vibed. And it’s no rocket science.

Or is it? I always wondered if there was more than the beauty of unawareness and carelessness when it comes to nailing these effortless looks? Style you have. It’s fashion you buy. If this is true (and I think it is, you just learn to master the former in time) then some of us are born with the messy penchant. So then, how can the rest of us fool the less connoisseurs that we too belong with the cool kids of fashion? How do we cuff our jeans to nail this trend to its perfection?

Let me start off by saying my POV on this one (not that anyone really gives a crap): no rules chicas! Ever. The beauty of fashion is that wrong does not exist, and the CUFFED TREND is one of the best showcases of this theory of mine.

ANY jeans style can be cuffed. In as many rolls or folds as you wish. It goes with ANY shoe style. ANY outfit. Any occasion. Any age. Any sex. It’s fantastic. 

Oversized Jeans: cuffing BF jeans or super large styles can be done in half, 1, 2 or 3 folds. Thick messy folds look great with oversized jeans as they give more definition to your legs and silhouette, and the exposed ankle is a very cheeky but well placed detail for showing off inches of your frame. It adds that bohemian and careless vibe to an outfit and it looks amazing with heels. 

Skinny Jeans: the cuff on these is thinner and less visible maybe, but it looks great. It elongates the legs, and showing a bit of ankle with heels, loafers, or tennis shoes is just the perfect way to add a bit of chicness and to break the monotony of long clean jeans. 

A thing I’ve noticed as a long term cuffer and addict of the cuffing is that doing this shtick to BF jeans will make them look more feminine. For skinny jeans, if they’re not very long (my case all the time) it’s a great way to mask their shortness. I also love the white washed out denim of the cuffing against the ankle and the shoes. Especially heels.

More looks: Not a new thing at all, this cuffing business is in the spotlight right now which means 2 things: (1) if you haven’t cuffed, you’d better start to, and (2) if you’re a cuffer you just got a major applause and style validation. :)

So out with the old, and in with the new. And fresh. And light-er fabrics. Brighter colors. Funky prints. Or keep it simple and minimal, which too, alongside pastels is a massive trend this spring. Would you go for statement and in-season items? Or would you go for timeless, super classy ones, cause you know, trends come and go? Challenged embraced and research done, I’ve realized no matter what happens some things remain the same over time. Even in fashion.
