How To Get THAT ’70’s Look This Fall?

70s-fashion-2014-inspiration (3)What if… for one month, we could live in a movie scene of our own choice?

Or even an era. A favorite moment snapshot in time. Dress, act, eat, drink, and mingle with the characters & real people of those scenes and times. Where would you go to? 70s-fashion-2014-inspirationIs that Bianca Jagger lusciously hanging by Andy Warhol‘s neck, in her V-plunging high slit sequined dress and fur coat? Cigarette in one hand, smoke blowing out over half dozed black eyelashes, flirtatiously laughing at his non-existent jokes cause why the hell not.

It’s mid fall circa 1970’s just outside Studio 54, where anybody who’s somebody is there. The Stones, Woody, Diana Ross, Jerry Hall, Cher, Sony.

Or Diane von Furstenberg, the woman and artist every other woman and man wants be around. In her iconic knee-length wrap dress, that, at this early hours of the morning is showing off her incredible legs, crossed in a cool and seductive laziness on a cozy crowded sofa in Studio 54, while sipping her poison of choice and having a fag, cause it’s the fucking 70’s you know. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration (5)70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-54 (3)70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-54 (4)70s-fashion-2014-inspirationBig hair, sultry dresses, exposed decolletages all the way to the belly button. No bras. Sequins, sheer, thick heels, fur coats, hats, red lips, tons of rings, big nails… the era of the borderline kitsch femme fatale, a look which today does not exist in the same sense.

The above image might as well describe a hooker making her morning rounds before she hits her motel room in 2014.  There is some decadence in all this 70’s fashion, and, as kitsch and at-times-too-glamorous as it may appear, it was a hell of a time. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-5470s-trend-in-2014-autumn (3)Or why not wander the streets of New York city having endless, witty, apparently-meaningless, funny, neurotic, intriguing conversations with a Woody Allen 70’s character?

You could look like Meryl Streep or Diane Keaton in their nude trench coats, cinged at the waist, with high brown tube boots in chunky heels and some pleated 70’s dress underneath, going on and on about what books you’ve read, that dish you always love to eat, that man you so want, those relationship spiderwebs.

It’s cold, and your hands are trying to stay in your pockets but you need to talk and make a point, you know, as you walk past coffee shops, and cross traffic jammed streets in a bit of a run, just to make that chunky heel sound. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration-studio-54 (7)Or why not live in Paris or London like Jane Birkin, making decadent love and music with Serge Gainsbourg? With her iconic effortless look, straight bed hair, bangs, rugged jeans, old tees, braless, and a coat slung around her shoulders. 70s-fashion-2014-inspiration (4)’70’s – that’s the time I’d go to. Paris for writing. Woody Allen film for LIFE, and Studio 54 for late night parties and crushes.

But since I can’t, I’m gonna have to make do with what I’ve got. Reenact it & make it all happen through fashion.

And it just so happens that this autumn the 70’s are back!

I would have never pictured myself a few years ago loving this decade, but today I think it’s one of the best. For its contrasts. For its neurotic freedom, decay, rise,  incredibly glamorous kitsch, rebelliousness and all that’s in between and beyond.

As each decade comes with its iconic look, for me the 70s come with a combination of the above, according to the mood swing you have, cause you know… if you’re gonna do the 70s do that shit all the way. 70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (2)2014-autumn-trend-the-70s-street-style (9)Be fabulously inconsistent, all over the place, fashion maniac and don a grandma style dress with high boots during the day and a drop dead gorgeous fuck-me-now-dress with a plunging neckline all the way to your lace knickers, during the evening.  And of course, since it’s cold and windy take shelter under a faux fur coat that looks more expensive than your 3 months paycheck, and top it all with golden rings on each finger. While sipping wine or Jack. The drink.

The 70s glam look for 2014 autumn:

  • high heels (ankle boots, sandals)
  • chiffon or silk over the knee or long dress
  • high slit
  • plunging neckline
  • thin necklace
  • tons of rings
  • middle part long messy hairstyle
  • faux fur coat
  • leather jacket & massive fur collar

70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (10)2014-autumn-trend-the-70s-street-style (3)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (12)2014-autumn-trend-the-70s-street-style (6)And then… during the day switch back to being either Jill or Mary or Annie, (i.e. Woody Allen characters) and capture all that half sexy –  (in that very intellectual charismatic but more realistic and appealing way) – half normcore style:

- peasant midi skirts, buttoned up shirts, silky paisley printed dresses cinged at the waist, slightly over the knees, the type that are more summer appropriate but you just stretch them into autumn cause you have a wanna-feel-sexy-artist-kinda-day, tube brown boots, chunky heels, oversized brown coats, brown trenches, brown bags, brown sunglasses. Cause you know, everything in the 70’s was so unsaturated and sort of sepia filtered.

The 70s daytime look for 2014 autumn:

  • high boots (tube style, over -the-knee etc.)
  • midi skirts (plaid, chiffon, prints, A-cut, high waist, straight, pleats, any style that has a bit of movement)
  • tucked in shirt, up to the waist line sweater, sheer blouse, or even deep V-cuts
  • classic trench coat cinged at the waist, or thick coat slightly oversized.
  • belts
  • wrap skirts or dresses

70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (5)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (4)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (6)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (8)70s-trend-in-2014-autumn (9)If the femme fatale or mom-look does not appeal to you, well… you always have Jane Birkin with her bohemian minimalist and chic style. Keep the boots or chunky heels, let your hair grow, but cut long bangs, wear your man’s shirts and t-shirts, skinny jeans, and simple classic coats. Always tuck your hair in your jacket and hum your fave tune.

How to make it all look 2014-sophisticated?

Attention to accessories: expensive looking jewelry, bags and shoes. Avoid really big hair that’d go on fire if you lit up a cigarette, and instead opt for Birkin’s locks. And always, always got for quality textures, and make sure if you’re wearing vintage pieces, that at least one item from your outfit is new and trendy. To get that eclectic balanced present day retro vibe.

It bares so many looks, translating into effortlessly sexy styles, that celebrate the clothes. Not the body so much. We’re all covered up. Midi lengths, high boots, turtle necks. Well… unless you’re channeling Studio 54 divas… then you’re anything but understated and covered up. And that’s great too.

Now you tell me: what decade or film you’d go to?

Oh… and by the way, what do you think about the 70s?

What A Girl Wants, What A Girl Needs

office-look-bags (7)Oh, not too much, but what it is, better be real, you know. Let’s not get all feisty and life preaching here though. Not the time. Not the place. Not the mood, and frankly not the point. Well maybe a little bit sometimes. And since no question mark is pending on us let’s talk fashion, the obvious point of le conversation today.

When it comes to fashion assuming girls want it all, and need it all is a pretty fair assumption. Hell, quite understated if you think about women’s 2 major obsessions: shoes and BAGS! So yeah you guessed it, girls love – among other things – BAGS. From tiny pretty delicate ones, to massive styles, to totes, messenger bags, clutches, designer’s, retail’s, vintage, classic, funky – we honestly can never have too many. office-look-bags (6)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (3)The thing about BAGS is plain and simple: they’re that one accessory we can have so much fun with, to the point of going over the top, even when going over the top is not a comfortable step for us. You know? A bag can very well set a style mood for your outfit, or be the monotony-breaker of a simple/plain/boring look. I mean it’s not like we wake up everyday in Carrie Bradshaw’s closet with an unquenchable thirst to play dress-up for 2 hours before work. At 7 a.m. Actually we’re all guilty of je m’en fiche office outfits, or can’t be bothered moods that basically translate to a pair of black trousers and a white shirt. Or an all black outfit.

And that’s fine. Really.

But is there something we can do to… mix business with pleasure. To not fret at what to wear today (while wearing thew same go-to-meh-outfits) YET pull a massive trick from our hats and actually appear like we’re Miranda fucking Ker on her way to… a Victoria Secret meeting. bags-for-office (3)street-style-bags (4)How can we dress simple and I-don’t-care-what-I-wear-to-work-today but look like we’re the poster girls for The Sophisticated Professional Woman?

Well… it may be easier than we thought. Just think about that one thing we’re always wearing. All. The. Time.,  and would never go anywhere without. Especially to work. Nooo. Not your undies. Your BAG.

Bags to women are like pockets to men. We have a world in there, since the beginning of time. We can barely find anything in it, but that’s hardly the point. Our office bags are our best friends. They go with us from 9 – 5, they carry all our shit, and the bigger they are the better. autumn-trend-bags (5)autumn-trend-bags (2)So when it comes to OFFICE BAGS, what’s your favorite style?

I for one – not that anybody cares, but anyway – am very particular about bags. Like I know what I like, I know precisely what I want, and will not even consider reconsidering. That’s a good thing. And a bad one as well.

In my world, bags have to be structured. Having said that I love all bags – tiny, normal, massive, designer or not – as long as they’re structured & look expensive. autumn-trend-bags (4)For office – since it’s today’s topic – I adore massive bags in basic classic colors, with few gold details to them, that can be carried by the handles, or over the shoulder. For boring outfit days, massive office bags in bright colors, with expensive details, or funky prints can really be a ticket to great effortless style. The instant second you pick one up and just carry it or throw it over your shoulders, regardless of the outfit, you look more chic, more sophisticated. It’s that simple. bags-for-officeSo without further ado let’s have a look at some amazing big bags just puuuuurfect for work. Cause they’re big enough to fit a whole day into them and pretty enough to up out office game. :)  autumn-trend-bags (3)autumn-trend-bags (6)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (2)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (5)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (6)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (7)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (9)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (10)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (11)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (13)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (14)bags-for-office-autumn-trend (15)bags-for-office-autumn-trendmassive-bags-looks (2)massive-bags-looks (3)massive-bags-looks (4)massive-bags-looks (5)massive-bags-looksmassive-bags-looksoffice-look-bags (2)office-look-bags (8)office-look-bags (9)office-look-bags (11)street-style-bagsstreet-style-bags (5)street-style-bags (3)street-style-bags (2)Street-Style49office-look-bags (13)office-look-bags (12)And now it’s your turn. ;)

The JACKETS Battle: Denim VS Leather

leather-denim-jacketsYeah, yeah, yeah. Autumn’s here, and were it not for all the websites and online mags preaching the arrival of fall with its sweater weather and ankle boots, I swear I would have still been in my bikinis oblivious of the rain and cooler temperatures.

Right. So, since living in another season is not optional I too have decided to join in on the world wide web and, drumrolls please… talk about autumn and its looks, and fads, and trends and whatnot.

One thing we change about our style habits come autumn is wearing a jacket. That’s to say we can still stretch some summer’ish outfits into fall, but for evening or crispy mornings we – most likely – will need a jacket. And when it comes to these, the last few years in fashion seem to have been all about the redundant leather jacket, and for 2 years now, the denim too is making a comeback. street-style-summer-denim-jackets (3)summer-leather-jackets-style (3)Two jackets styles we never discussed and I’m sure all of you probably own at least one of them and are lusting over for more. And then more. Leather & Denim Jackets may be quite similar: usually short, they go with everything, perfect transitional pieces, perfect for layers, for any style bla, bla, bla. YET the 2 looks they translate to are quite different for the trained eye, so I was wondering if you guys had to choose a favorite between these 2 which would it be: DENIM or LEATHER? denim-or-leather-jackets-foAlthough I practically live in my leather jacket, I will admit I hate the fact that it became more than a staple, it became a ubiquitous bitch, that’s all over the place, regardless of personal style. So, while leather is my first and only true love, I am considering a denim affair for this autumn. For variety reasons you know.

Leather can translate to more chic and smart looks, to a bit more professional in that sophisticated editor kinda way. It’s sleeker somehow. Whereas denim is a bit more sporty and casual, but with the right outfit it can definitely look cooler. summer-leather-jackets-stylestreet-style-summer-denim-jackets (5)I have a theory about denim: that due to its colors  (which come in a trillion hues, so there’s that as well) it really really compliments any skin tone making us look more fresh. And of course, denim goes with anything. But so does leather so… at the end of the day it’s really a matter of taste and mood.

Let’s have a look at each of these and then we can make a decision. Or not.

Fall 2014 Trend: The SWEATER Dress

$

fall-trends-sweater-dress (11)Knits. Knits. Knits. The trend was all over the runway for 2014 fall. Groundbreaking right? Well certainly not, but very comforting to know that what us mortals have been wearing for centuries in autumn is in fact this season’s trend. Of course sweaters of all sorts have made the look each year, but head to toe knits? Or layered knitted tops & cardigans?! Err, somebody call grandma, tell her she’s been robbed of her Sunday fashion attire.

Pardon my sarcasm here, but who can honestly say head to toe knits work on a daily basis, on people interacting with other people, out there in the world? Read: office, meetings, important rendezvous. Dates? I’m leaving aside. Hell if you’re wearing head-to-toe knits on your date you can kiss your second date good-bye, and that’ll be the only thing you’ll be kissing. Btw.

Or maybe not. A SWEATER DRESS is a head to toe knit look. fall-trends-sweater-dressNot a new and groundbreaking style in the least, not fashion forward, not unseen or undone before. No. Yet most definitely warm, cozy, trendy (according to the above), with that 70’s vibe that’s massive this season (Trendy Twice). May not be a layered look, or composed of knits look (knitted skirt + sweater + cardigan), but it’s a head-to-toe knit alright. And one we can rock in a heartbeat, and take anywhere, while keeping warm. sweater-dressesCan we do the head-to-toe knit trend then, and NOT look like grandma? YES. It’s all about textures & accessories ladies.

So if your upper half is covered in chunky knits, sweaters, cardigans OR sweater dresses – the topic of the day – make sure you’re wearing posh shoes, sexy heels, over the knee boots in patent, leather or suede. Sleek feet style! Add some rich-looking jewelry and a faux fur coat, a leather jacket, a classic trench and you can forget about granny-style. fall-trends-sweater-dress (4)2014-fall-trend-knit-dresses (2)oversized-sweater-dress-style (2)The great thing about sweater dresses is the million of styles, designs, knits, colors, prints and patterns they come in – making it super easy to choose one for any occasion, office and weekends included. They’re easy to style, to wear, to accessorize, to dress up or down. They go with bare legs and tights as well, hell even short shorts underneath if you wish. On those hectic mornings when you’ve got nothing to wear, or lazy Sundays when you’re doing lunch with your friends – a sweater dress is the best thing to wear. You just pull it over, put some boots on, a coat and you’re done! 2014-fall-trend-knit-dresses (3)fall-trends-sweater-dress (2)street-style-sweater-dresses (5)What sweater dress to choose? It depends on your style, your mood, and where you’re going.

There are those oversized chunky sweater dresses, that look like are 10 sizes up, but go amazing with classic stiletto pumps or thigh high boots. sweater-dresses-trend (3)street-style-sweater-dressesThen there are the more fitted styles, over the knee, pencil cut that are great for office with a blazer on top. sweater-dresses-trend (5)sweater-dress-look (4)fall-trends-sweater-dress (20)The short loose versions are great for going out to lunches and dinner and even dates. Go figure. They look great with any shoe style and make a perfect effortless but polished look when paired with a boyfriend blazer. Or get that 70’s vibe and pair them with a faux fur coat. fall-trends-sweater-dress (7)fall-trends-sweater-dress (6)fall-trends-sweater-dress (8)Not to mention the textures they come in. Knits alright, but they range from those chunky uber thick styles to those thin, almost sheer, silky designs. Literally a million ways to do this trend, without even overdoing it, and always looking effortless, slightly boho-chic, but very polished in a cozy kinda way. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.

2014 Fall Trend Alert: The WRAP COAT

wrap-coats-looks (12)You know that feeling you have when you’re left out on something? As if you’ve been living obliviously happy in your own, apparently not-so-up-to-date- reality, while a whole lot of stuff has been happening around you. Well, thanks for the heads up you know. My dear Fashion friend.

As I’ve tried, and tried, and tried, and then tried some more to find out what’s HOT out there in terms of trends for 2014 fall – other than the ones already being in rotation for the past 2 years – turns out the elephant in the room was staring right at me. I was just too caught up in my own quest to stop and smell the coffee you know. coats-for-2014COATS for 2014 ladies. That’s what we talk about today, and how the latest coat-fad in town right now is: forget buttons. Forget them altogether when it comes to this season’s coats. WRAP COATS are the IT coats of the season. That’s not to say we’ll all be strutting the streets in long unbuttoned coats like some Highlanders (although why the fuck not, if it floats our boat?), but we’ll instead literally wrap them around us with belts of all sorts. the-wrap-coatWhat do we have then? A very, very, very effortless and chic somewhat 70’s look in oversized coats - camel being HOT! HOT! HOT! still – with massive collars, and obviously no buttons. The beauty of this look lies exactly in its effortlessness and the easy-going vibe it has, especially if we’re wearing long coats. Like knee or over the knee long.

The look is as much chic as it is classy and elegant when paired with office wear. Or it can be hobo-chic when worn with sneakers, beanies & BF jeans. Not to mention it keeps us warm, and allows so many layers underneath it’s perfect.

Without further ado let’s indulge into some street style inspiration… ;) the-wrap-coat-stylewrap-coats=lookswrap-coats-autumn-trend (2)wrap-coats-autumn-trend (3)wrap-coats-autumn-trend (4)wrap-coats-autumn-trend (5)wrap-coats-autumn-trend (6)wrap-coats-autumn-trendwrap-coats-looks (2)wrap-coats-looks (3)wrap-coats-looks (4)wrap-coats-looks (5)wrap-coats-looks (6)wrap-coats-looks (7)wrap-coats-looks (8)wrap-coats-looks (9)wrap-coats-looks (10)wrap-coats-looks (11)wrap-coats-looks (13)wrap-coats-looks (14)wrap-coats-trend-2014wrap-coats-trendwrap-coats-styleswrap-coats-lookswrap-coats-looks (15)Frankly I have no idea as to why I’m so bloody surprised this is happening. It’s certainly not a new coat style. Not the first time women ditch buttons for belts. Not the first time I’ve ever seen or wore such a coat myself.

I guess making it official and realizing it’s a pretty darn clear trend per se for 2014 fall is what made me act all ‘what the hell? where was I when this thing took off?‘ Er… here. It all comes to show us that we never really know when a look – as ‘whatever’ as it may be – could one day just turn into a season trend!

Right? ;)

Is GREY The New Black This Fall?

$

fall-trend-2014-grey (18)Nooooooooooooooo! (read it in a desperate, very desperate scream) although, to be honest no matter what the fashion gurus say, I’m sticking to my guns on this one, as I will probably be alone in my love for the dark color, clinging desperately to all black outfits, while everyone else is doing 50 shades of Grey. Sorry I couldn’t help myself. Well, at least I didn’t use the book reference in the title.

Just the other day I was reading in Vogue, how GREY is a massive trend for 2014-2015 cold season, so I thought why not talk about this. fall-trend-2014-grey (6)Will grey become more than a sweater, a pair of pants, or a coat in a look? Or will it be an ALL-GREY thing, thus replacing what up to now used to be all-black and all-white outfits? Come to think of it, it kinda makes sense, it’s sort of a happy marriage between these 2 non colors. The result? A very very very elegant shade if you ask me, with a touch of cool, a bit of sadness, poised class, cold refinement.

It’s like a black & white incredible photo. grey-is-the-new-blackWhile I will never give up or replace my all-black outfits, I will however try on colored or less colored ones, such as this GREY TREND, which I really like, and have worn before. What I actually love about this cool shade is the fact that being neutral, makes it go with anything. YES, even brown.

It looks fantastic with a pop of color, such as red, or even bright yellow, so I always think a grey sweater with jeans and red lips, is perfect for a casual chic Saturday. All grey outfits look amazing with red nails, red lips or red shoes. all-grey-look-fall-trend-2014 (4)There is something incredibly refined about this color, and the minimal effect is has makes it very easy to play the posh card and play with rich small details that give you sort of a luxurious yet minimal air to the whole look. I LOVE that. It’s effortless. Crispy but soft, rich but understated. all-grey-look-fall-trend-2014OR it can be grungy why not, when worn in simple tees, ripped jeans and a black leather jacket. You end up looking like those rebel cool girls on music posters. How To Wear SHORTS In Autumn & Winter?

$

autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tights (11)Or maybe I should have asked ‘How to look like off-duty models in the cold season?’ Cause it seems to me these girls have their well picked uniforms and fabulous effortless styles for all seasons, and in autumn and winter they’re all seen in their cut-off denims or leather shorts with chunky sweaters, leather jackets or coats, and biker or over-the-knee boots. And sometimes, when it’s freezing they’ll sport black sheer or opaque tights. Amazing, if you ask me. models-off-duty-shorts-lookThe SHORTS-in-the-cold-season look has definitely translated into a trend for the past couple of years, courtesy of these models and us as well. Whaaaat? Well… I happen to think we’re also baring a tiny bit of blame for the shorts in winter style, just because we can’t yet part ways with these items once summer’s gone.

So… as any brilliant minded sartorial defying blizzard would do, we too came up with this trend. As long as the feet are comfortable (or not) and warm in boots and thick soft socks (over-the-knee styles look amazing), and we’re all bundled up in layers of knits and shirts and tees and wrap coats (this season’s massive trend!) a few inches of leg skin is ‘whatever’ you know.

Not to mention that if you’re too cold, or love the grungy cool style, you can definitely resort to those sheer or opaque black tights. Or even pattern styles. autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tights (5)autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tights (2)autumn-trend-leather-shortsWhat’s the secret to nailing the-shorts-in-winter look? Nothing much I think, because they’ll instantly look fantastic paired with autumn and winter items: sweaters, shirts, vests, jackets, coats and what not. In terms of shoes, which set the tone for the whole look, anything goes from ballet flats, to biker boots, to sky high heels, to sneakers.autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tights (7)autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tights (3)autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tightsDo all summer shorts work in the cold season? I kinda think they do, so YES from my part. I’ve worn light colored and different fabric shorts in freezing temperatures paired with chunky sweaters and black tights and I like to think they looked OK. Truth is I’ve always loved the clashing of season fabrics and thought a pair or lace or silky shorts look fantastic with a cable knit sweater and high boots. It looks sophisticated.

So YES to all shorts in winter if you ask me. Except maybe for white ones. Although even those can work paired with a black sweater, black high boots and bare leg skin. Or maybe except for those beach-shorts. Yeah, I’m guessing those are a no-no. autumn-trend-denim-cutoffs-tights (8)shorts-style-in-autumnEasiest shorts styles to don in winter? By far the high waisted ones! I love those loose cotton & leather styles, jacquard, sequins, also look so luxurious, plaid could even work if you love it, and last but not least denim. A pair of denim cutoffs will ALWAYS look effortless, cool, grungy, edgy, or chic, depending on your personal style.shorts-in-winter-looks (12)shorts-in-winter-looks (2)street-style-autumn-shorts (3)Where to wear shorts in winter? Well… this might be the tricky part. Short shorts are a no-no for the office, even with tights, buuuuut those loose high wasited styles that resemble skirts – those – I think can look quite chic and professional paired with a blouse & blazer & ankle boots or ballet pumps.

Also perfect for the office are the knee-length shorts especially when paired with a color coordinated blazer. Think short business suit. For autumn days.shorts-in-winter-looks (5)street-style-autumn-shortsThe rest of your summer shorts can basically go anywhere in winter, except the beach you know. 2014 Fall Trend: FEATHERS!

$

feathers-streetstyleIf you didn’t know that birds of a feather, er… dress together, well now you do.

The saying (sans les feathers) is so true for me and my birdy friends it’s scary. We go shopping together and more often than not end up buying the same clothes, each of us refusing to make a compromise will lie to herself that we’ll be careful as to not wear them at the same time when we’re together. We never do. That is, we never plan in advance to avoid the copycat sartorial predicament, so we do sometimes end up looking like slightly schitzy overly fashioned sisters. And the moment we start talking in syncron, that’s when it all goes down south.

At this point we’ve learned that creating confusion kills boredom so we just say, at the same time: ”It’s been 2 weeks since the doctor separated us.” We get the laughs, true, but I’m pretty sure they come with the weird label as well.

Starting with this fall though things are about to skyrocket to the next level for us, as women with a penchant for fashion (Hello, everyone!) will literally dress to the above saying: BIRDS OF A FEATHER flock DRESS TOGETHER! IN FEATHERS. 2014-fall-trend-feathers (3)2014-fall-trend-feathers (2)2014-fall-trend-feathersYes ladies, feathers are the new IT thing of 2014 – 2015 autumn/winter, and I think that’s just fantastic. A while ago I would have been very skeptical in regards to this trend, but 2 things made me change my mind. OK 3.

  1. Seeing my friend and fellow blogger Vanessa from Budding Fashionista rock a fab feather skirt here.
  2. Looking at some Vogue pics of this trend.
  3. My inner voice screaming ”Have some fun, you stuck up bitch! It’s just fashion. And they’re just feathers.”

Good. So here I am now, converted to the birdy trend and it ain’t that bad. Actually feathers have a bit of retro glamour and sophistication to them. They’re somewhere between fab costume & sexy fashion forward style. And the way they just dance and move at the slightest wind blow it’s irresistible. It’s like wearing a trend with its own personality. Not to mention that each color they come in, is more than just a color. It’s a new style and look altogether: black feathers, pink fathers, white, green, blue… *sigh*. fashion-look-feathers-skirt2014-fall-trend-feathers (5)feathers-details-looksHow to wear feathers without looking like a half bird – half person creature?

Instead of draping yourself in a feathers coat, just stick to one feather item.

Skirts are the easiest and chicest way to go about this trend. A black or colored feathers mini skirt looks great with a more classic top (tee, shirt, sweatshirt) and more feminine shoes (flats, high boots, classic pumps). feathers-looks-autumn-trend-2014 (2)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (2)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (8)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (9)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (7)Feather tops are one way to dress to this trend. They scream fashion celebration.feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014feathers-trend-street-style (5)If you’re not sold on the big bold feathers look, but still wanna do the trend you can certainly give it a try with feather details on shoes, bags, shoulders, necklaces, appliques here and there, hats. I think the best way to go about styling is to keep it chic and feminine OR clash them with more versatile pieces like denim or leather.

They are a massive statement piece so leave it to them only to make the bold fashion moment of your outfit. Let’s see some street stylers now for inspiration. ;) feathers-looks-autumn-trend-2014 (3)feathers-looks-autumn-trend-2014 (5)feathers-looks-chicfeathers-on-clothes-looksfeathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (4)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (6)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (10)feathers-skirt-autumn-trend-2014 (11)feathers-styles-fashionOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAfeathers-trend-street-style (4)feathers-trend-street-style (6)feathers-trend-street-style (8)feathers-trend-street-style (9)feathers-trend-street-style (10)feathers-trend-street-style (12)feathers-trend-street-style (13)pink-feathers-lookslight-feathers-fashion-trenAnd now, if you’ll excuse me I’ll go fly away in some feathers…

The Oversized BLAZER: Is There A Right Way To Wear It?

$

0

boyfriend-blazer-street-style (3)Apparently everything these days is about size. The bigger the better. Question mark. When it comes to fashion it seems more yes than no, with women’s looks borrowing pretty much all they can from menswear, with slouchy oversized silhouettes, 80s cuts and big bold frumpy coats, jackets and blazers. Blame it on the cycle of fashion, on women’s full plate with constantly being too polished or dressing too fitted, whatever the reason, the outcome is great.

And while there’s nothing new and groundbreaking about a blazer, be it fitted, oversized, slouchy, or structured, talking about the blazer look and wearing one is still considered a trendy thing. In a very classic chic sort of way. boyfriend-blazersOversized or boyfriend blazers have been hot for decades. Hello, the 80s, remember, with a quick relapse in the late 90s and 00s, when fitted was the only size everyone was doing, which soon ended to make way to classic blazer cuts and for the last few years to the big blazer also known as the boyfriend blazer. boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (10)boyfriend-blazer-style-trend (5)For this year though it seems to me like even boyfriend blazers went up a size and are bigger, longer, wider, broader (sans le big shoulder pads please!), and it makes me wonder about two things. 1) Do we, or CAN we literally wear our boyfriends’ blazers for a style statement? and 2) Is there actually a right way to doing this massive blazer look?

The current obsession we’re having now with ‘how to dress like a French girl?’ makes me quickly jump to 2 answers for the above questions. What would a French girl say: YES to (1), and NO to (2). Duh. boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (3)oversized-blazer-street-styleTruth is it takes a certain kinda swag and attitude & GREAT personal style to pull off a boyfriend blazer look per se, without any attention to what you’re pairing it with. That said, there are girls who look amazing in oversized blazers and slouchy trousers and frumpy tops. It’s hobo-chic and it works. For some.

It’s got to do with the details of your look: from hair to makeup, shoes, bags, accessories. Adding a bit of jazz to your hobo-chic look with these is what sets you apart from a just-hobo look. boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (15)For the rest of the world though, the safest way to do the oversized blazer does actually imply a RIGHT way to nail it, by paying attention to ONE style trick: keep at least one item of your look fitted (trousers, jeans, skirts, or top) to create a balance in the silhouette. Think like an architect. boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (4)Another trick to pulling off an as-big-as-you-want-it-to-be blazer is playing with lengths. More and more bloggers, celebs, and fashion savvys are opting for the blazer dress, which is a fab way to dress for a posh evening out, a cocktail party and so on, but it’s also inspiring to see how great a big-ass blazer can look with a mini skirt, shorts, or short dresses. Sizes in this case can be either slouchy or fitted, cause you’re playing with lengths, which will create a visual balance. boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (2)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (19)For chicness and sophistication purposes you can consider: rolled up sleeves, wearing your blazer slung on your shoulders, using a belt over it, popping your collar (I can’t believe I just said that! Well… for cold days you know), adding a scarf over it, pairing it with sporty tops, statement accessories for example, and so on. boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (7)boyfriend-blazer-street-style (2)Enough talk. Let’s see some photos for inspiration… :) boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (5)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (8)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (9)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (11)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (12)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (13)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (14)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (16)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (17)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (18)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (20)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (21)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (22)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (23)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (24)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015 (25)boyfriend-blazer-autumn-trend-2015boyfriend-blazer-look (2)boyfriend-blazer-street-style (4)boyfriend-blazer-street-style (5)boyfriend-blazer-street-styleboyfriend-blazer-style-trend (2)boyfriend-blazer-style-trend (3)boyfriend-blazer-style-trend (4)boyfriend-blazer-style-trend (6)boyfriend-blazer-style-trend (7)boyfriend-blazer-style-trendoversized-blazersoversized-blazers-looksRight way or no right way, one thing’s certain: oversized blazers have never been so hot, and they’re not going anywhere!

How To Make Casual Tops Look More Expensive?

street-style-basic-tops-looksWhen it comes to fashion ONE thing will always remain true: It’s not what you wear, it’s HOW you wear it! And in fact a lot in fashion today has to do with having great taste and personal style. The rise of the effortlessly cool outfits, the urban glam, sporty-luxe looks are all results of the new style mesh that’s going on right now. The old with the new, the posh with the casual, the retail with the high end.

They’re all coexisting, married in perfect harmony on the backs of the coolest and most savvy sartorials out there. casual-topsStyle is what we have regardless of where we’re going and what we’re wearing, so buying wholesale clothing and making a basic casual top for example look more expensive can – why not – turn into a fashion challenge. Besides we can never have too many casual clothes, nor too many simple sweaters, affordable dresses or basic tees. They’re the simple items that can bring together so many looks. apparel-candy-blouseshow-to-make-casual-clothes-look-expensive (2)So many times I’ve gone shopping for God knows what – except clothes per se – and usually ended up in wholesale clothing for women sections digging up for tiny treasures or affordable tops to go with more expensive items like skirts or trousers or bags and so on. Let’s not even discuss funky nail polishes that you just want to have on a spur of a moment. A great affordable sweater, a jumper, a pair of sunglasses are all items we can never have too much of. affordable-clothes-apparelccasual-tops (2)how-to-make-casual-clothes-look-expensive (3)And if the shop offers great style pieces, such as the one at Apparel Candy - you pretty much end up indulging in everything, because they’re affordable, because you know you can make them look so polished paired with great accessories, and because frankly us girls can never say no to clothes. affordable-topsapparel-candy-wholesale-cloSo how do we make casual clothes looks more expensive? It’s all about details and accessories.

ANY simple top – sweater, jumper, jersey top, t-shirt, blouse, shirt – can immediately look chic and dressy with a great necklace. Sometimes even a pop of red lips will do the trick. street-style-basic-tops-looks (9)street-style-basic-tops-looks (4)I love pairing casual clothes with more statement pieces, with more luxurious items because I love the clashing of textures and styles, I love the balance of such a look, which usually translates into effortlessly chic outfits. Street Style Day 5 - Milan Fashion Week Womenswear Autumn/Winter 2014street-style-basic-tops-looks (11)A simple dress can instantly look brilliant with some great jewelry, ankle boots, and a leather jacket. how-to-make-casual-clothes-look-expensivehow-to-make-casual-clothes-look-expensive (4)street-style-basic-tops-looks (7)A good ol’ jumper or jersey top looks fantastic with a pair of jeans, hot heels, and a statement necklace or a pair of great earrings. street-style-basic-tops-looks (2)street-style-basic-tops-looks (5)street-style-basic-tops-looks (8)Always make sure you pick more simple designs, classic colors, good fabrics, never over-the-top, not too flamboyant. Keep it all simple and fuss-free. A good fit is another important tip to making affordable pieces look more expensive.

And then we have the scarves, the accessories, which are never too many so buying as much as we want from any shop anywhere is usually what we do, which is great cause we can then have fun pairing them with so many looks and outfits without ever looking the same. street-style-basic-tops-looks (3)street-style-basic-tops-looks (6)wholesale-women-clothingapparel-candy-fashionstreet-style-basic-tops-looks (10)OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAstreet-style-basic-tops-looks (13)street-style-basic-tops-looks (14)street-style-basic-tops-looksSo next time you go shopping for other than clothes, still be on the lookout for great casual basic items that constantly keep our creativity rolling and frankly make great looks paired with cool outfits and statement accessories.

It’s not what you wear… it’s HOW you wear it! ;)

The more I think about this PLAID and TARTAN TREND the more I’m inclined to say it’s not really a trend, but mostly a staple. Don’t you agree? Its lifetime is pretty long and frankly seems to not fade away, so here we are in 2015 (almost) still doing the plaid look as if it’s the freshest thing out there. Who’s to blame? Only fashion and its cyclic behavior. Perhaps the lack of groundbreaking ideas as well.   But if you can’t marry the past, you’re nobody in fashion.… >> Read more

Give me a nice pair of shoes and I won’t say ‘No’. Give me a hot pair of sexy boots and it’s a whole different story that starts with a ‘Hell yeah’. That’s how it is with Fringe Boots. They just sum up the two best things in fashion: 1) Shoes. Doh, and 2) Trends, with fringe being huge in 2015 Spring/Summer. After spending hours on my Tumblr last week, on photos that put me in this 70s mood of Jane Birkin & Serge Gainsbourg irresistible attraction, of Brigitte Bardot, of those great films, great fashions and times – it hit me. They all had one thing in common: a certain coolness, je ne sais quois effortlessness and more often than not it was given by their simple outfits mixed with their fabulous attitudes. When 4 out of 5 street style photos depict over the top outfits and extravagant sartorial choices you kinda get to thinking that yes, the key to dressing for fashion week lies in fashion-dementia. Hey, you know what they say – a bit of restraint and discipline never hurt nobody. Could this be the reason behind the army trend? Does fashion really what us poised and powerful? Intimidating. Boyfriend Jeans: Trend OR Staple?

The thing about boyfriend jeans is that, (1) no male specimen is required, and (2) the aforementioned baggy jeans can be either trend or staple. Yet, if we’re to act like respectable sartorials over here we might just look the truth straight in the eye and tell it like it is. Boyfriend jeans started off a few years ago as this uber and frankly way too trendy item in every girl’s closet. Their birth as baggy relaxed jeans totally opposite to their skinny siblings, had probably something to do with the 80s mom jeans (that too are back in fashion) and the classic boot cut denim design of the 90s.… >> Read more
